<p><del datetime="2010-04-23T15:48" cite="mailto:trt"></del>Ulcers are highly prevalent in horses. Studies have shown that horses involved in typical pleasure activities can have surprisingly high rates of gastric ulceration, between 40% and 70% depending on studies have also shown gastric ulceration can occur in as little as 3 days under certain circumstances.</p>
<p>The behavioral and clinical signs of gastric ulceration are varied. To name only a few, they include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Changes in eating and drinking behavior</li>
<li>Weight loss</li>
<li>Change in attitude (for the worse)</li>
<li>Recurrent colic</li>
<li>Dull hair coat</li>
<li>Less-than-optimal performance</li>
<li>Foals may also grind their teeth or lay on their backs</li>
</ul>
<p>Some of the most common stress factors that can lead to stomach ulcers are:</p>
<ul>
<li>Competition</li>
<li>Travel</li>
<li>Training</li>
<li>Trailering</li>
<li>Limited turnout or grazing</li>
<li>Weekend shows or events’</li>
<li>Lay-up due to sickness or injury</li>
<li>Changes in routine</li>
